Does a Hiatal Hernia do this?

I've been diagnosed with GERD a couple of years ago. The last couple of weeks I've been getting a weird feeling around my diaphram. It makes it hard to breath at times and feels like someone is giving me a tight hug and squeezing all the air out of me. I also get a feeling like I'm fidgety and antsy like I can't sit still - like when you get really tired. Does a hiatal hernia do this? I hear it can effect your breathing but what about the fidgety feeling?

I had my heart checked 4 times in the last few years because of tightness in the chest. They just keep telling me it's not my heart. My Dr wants me to see a cardiologist again - it's been over a year since the last test. I'm going to make an appointment and also one with a gasterologist. Thanks

You definitely need to see a doctor regarding your symptoms.  Not only are you experiencing symptoms of GERD, but also symptoms of heart disease.  A lot of people misunderstand angina, thinking it is a sharp pain... it is typically described as a 'squeezing' feeling.  I've had both GERD and heart problems, and it takes a health professional to sort it all out, and believe me, they can.
I hope you check with your doctor, and keep us informed what is discovered.

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

It is possible for a hiatal hernia to affect the vagus nerve, it is this nerve that may affect the breathing , heart rate, feeling anxious etc....please see ur Dr with these symptoms so u get a full check up and do inform ur Dr of ur family's medical history as well.

Good Luck
