Back/throat pain from acid reflux?

Hi all,  For years I have had nocturnal acid reflux.  The last year it has gotten worse where I occasionally wake up with back and throat pain but it is quickly resolved by getting up, moving around and taking tums.  I have been to many gastro dr.s, have been on nexium and zantac and am mostly constipated (wondering if I have IBS-C?)  For some reason, I am petrified of having pancreatic cancer and worry that the back pain could be this.  Two weeks ago, I ate and drank horribly one night and since then, I have had a flare up where all my symptoms are not just nocturnal.  I saw my doctor a few days ago and he said to go back on the nexium every day and then check back with him in a month.  Any advice or knowledge would be so welcome!

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum,

It is possible that what u ate triggered a flare, but it is also possible that bcuz u r constipated u feel that way too.

GERD meds can deplete the body of many vitamins and minerals....ask ur Dr about adding a dose of magnesium and see if that helps the constipation and ur flare up.

Hi there,

The binge drinking and eating could have triggered a bad reflux and you may have to take your Nexium/Zantac or even Gaviscon plus for a while again as you may have Esophagitis.

I had the Nissen fundo in 2012 and have always been bothered by constipation to.  I take "Norvacol" granules for this and it really helps for the bloatedness/constipation and often stomach pains that is typical of IBS.

Maybe try this and see how you go?
