GERD advice please

Hi there, for the last 6 weeks I have had constant bad taste in my mouth (it never goes away) just changes in severity.  I went to the doctor and she diagnosed GERD, I am very tender just above the rib cage in the centre, have this foul taste, get frequent sore throats and feel like something is stuck there and get regular upset stomachs and nausea :(

The doc prescribed me lansoprazole 30mg, I have now been taking this for 10 days with very little change.

Is it too early for the symptoms to be easing?
Can I do or take anything else that might make this better?  The worst symptom for me is the acidic taste.

Please help, this is driving me nuts!!!

Thanks

When my acid reflux is at it's worse it takes around 3 months to get it back under control with prilosec. Great advice from ashlara. Those are all the things I do. Losing weight has worked wonders. Good luck

Try some apple cider vinegar. i know it sounds crazy to fight acid with acid but it works and it is all natural. If it doesn't work then you still have those pills that throw your body out of it's normal routine. there is probably a good reason why its making extra acid.

I would ask your doctor whether they would consider scoping you. It's called an EGD and they sedate you, pass a scope through your vocal cords and get a look at your esophagus. They can see if you have a Hiatal hernia or if your esophagus is having irritation.
Have you changed your diet? No caffeine, or very little- alcohol, spicy foods, citrus, chocolate, tomatoes- all bad for your stomach. Don't lie down for at least 3 hrs. after eating. Bed Bath and Beyond sells a pillow wedge to keep your head elevated while you sleep.
I would also call your doctor and ask if you can take the Prevecid twice a day temporarily. Be sure to take it 1/2 hr.-1 hr. before eating, so you may consider getting a small pill case to carry a few pills with you in case you're out. You really don't want to stay on it twice a day for too long. Don't bend over or wear tight clothing around your waist. You might want to see your dentist, if you haven't recently. Hope you feel better!
