Dental loss due to extended GERD

At 55 I have lost almost all of my molars and some of the front teeth, each time it has been from the top down with the root fully intact. A couple of times I was force to have a root canal but mostly the roots have been fine. When I was younger this started with the fillings falling out after 9 to 12 months  It was dismissed as faulty dentistry. Reality is that the Gerd condition that presented itself early in my young adult life has taken its toll. I now have half of my stomach (not an exaggeration) has pushed its way up through my esophagas. Why doesn't the medical community acknowledge this as a symptom of GERD?

Not all foods are acidic that can affect us when we have an acidic stomach......

When I was really bad even water got me.....keep a journal of what u eat and how u feel, u may find there is something affecting u , that u would have never expected.

And the above posted is right....u can develope a bacteria that will persist even with most gerd meds....u need a pro biotic then...see ur GI dr.

Who diagnosed your dental problem as being from GERD?  What do you take for it? The relaxation of the LES valve is what causes the acid to back up and this can be from some foods like chocolate, mint and alcohol are the biggest offenders. I have an acid problem also which is very extreme and have doctored for it my whole life along with bloating. I also have a hiatal hernia as do probably 30% of the people. You mention an ulcer. Most ulcers are caused by the H. Pylori bacteria and there is treatment for that. If it is an ulcer caused by medications like Advil or Aspirn that should heal over time.

It was not acidic food! Understand this it is stomach acid passing up thru my esophagas, because of my hiatal hernia, during the night that dissolved my teeth over years.  Because of my ulcers I have avoided acidic food.

HI and welcome to the GERD forum.

U pose a very good queston....the dental industry has been trying to say how acidic foods are destroying the enamel on our teeth and have a special toothpaste to help protect the teeth.

All we can do is share info we have learned thru experience and help others b4 it gets too bad for them.

Thank you for sharing some very important info.
