Dear Doctor,
thank you so much for entering in my post
I am a guy of 28 years, I've been suffering for 7 years from acid reflux with hiatus hernia of 1,5 cm of diameter, diagnosed by endoscopy made on date 27/06/2009
my symptoms are:
1)pain in the central part of my stomach with presence of a sort of little ball which is visible even to naked eye
2)feeling of foreign body in the throat
3)feeling of burning to my oesophagus
4)rarely small spills from the mouth of gastric
My GP doctor gave me a therapy of Lansoprazole caps (ec grans), 15mg.
I asked my doctor about a surgery operation, and she told me that here in England they don't do it any more this kind of operation, and she added they do it just when the hernia is very big
When I write down a post in medicine forums about this illness every doctor says that the methods to do this kind of operation are several, and it's possible to do it when:
the patient is young and he doesn't want to take medicines for all his life,
the patient has got regurgitation and he can't control it with medicaments,
or when the patient decides to do the operation for his choice
So why when I ask about it in physical environment like hospitals or doctors they say me that is not possible, and in medical forums they say me totally the opposite
I really want to do this operation
My life is very limited with this problem: I cant even go for a drink with friends as how painful it is, sometimes I can't drink even cold water
Most of the time I have to be sit at my work and sometimes I fall asleep on my chair because I can't even drink a coffee, coffee is like poison for my stomach
Sometimes I have all my throat is irritated and I have problem to talk to people
Why I have to suffer all my from this illness if a solution is possible?
Any information concerning this will be very appreciated
Thank you so much for taking your time out reading my e-mail
I look forward to hearing from you soon
Kind regards
I was very shocked when I read that the Docs in UK recons they don't do the surgery anymore??? what is up with that?
One thing I can tell you is that you did not have some of the necessary tests done so far to determine if you are a surgical candidate. I can tell you that out of experience. In the past 3 years my GERD has really gotten out of hand as I now have Barrets Esophagus and I've had 5 Endocscopies done, 2 Manomatric tests, 1x 24hr PH study, 1x Impedance study, 3x Laryngoscopies (ENT Specialist) and I've seen 4x different General Surgeons, 2x Gastro Ent, 1x Surgeon and NOW I am on the list for being a surgical candidate!
You will need to go see a GI doc as your last Endoscopy was done 2009? You need Manomatric test or Impedance study. But definitely: there is absolutely no reason why you should just live with it and not get a solution to your problem.
I hope that you can get a referral to a GI doc in the New Year and start getting the right treatment.
Let us know how you are doing.
All the best,
