reflux update post manometry

Hello
I had a motility and 24hr pH test and discovered my esophagus muscle is now weak from acid reflux. Food gets stuck about midway and I have to drink a lot of water with each meal. They were able to see I have acid reflux every time I eat or drink despite being on PPIs. The medication helps but its still very high. My question is - can the esophagus get stronger if the avid is controlled? I'm still waiting to see whats causing the reflux.

Thanks Flycaster

I'm not seeing my specialist until Feb 10th so hopefully she'll be able to tell me a little more. For sure I have GERD and a motility issue as my episodes of acid reflux were 49 during that 24 hour impedance test and that's while I'm taking PPIs.
I'm surprised you would be told to take peppermint oil as I heard not to eat anything mint related for GERD.  Again, I appreciate your feedback.  It helps to hear from someone who's dealing with the same thing!

Acid reflux and motility issues are two different conditions.  Antacids may help, but I don't think so, it is a separate condition from GERD.  This can be a very difficult condition, I know first hand, I have the same problem you have.  The reasons can differ for the condition.  I know Botox injections can be done to deaden the nerves as Smiley, who checks in this board will tell you.  I'm following the strangest suggestion from my doctor... I'm shaking three or four drops of essential oil of peppermint into about an ounce of water before eating, and drinking it. It is working, I'm not up-chucking the contents of my esophagus or getting pain.  Peppermint is a powerful nerve agent, it is the primary item in 'Green' hornet spray, which I use and is extremely effective. Be careful using it, and please ask your doctor first.

Hi....not sure I can give you an answer to your particular issue. But I know that meds can help repair damage from reflux.

Take meds according to instructions from your Dr......follow modifications to diet and lifestyle as meds alone can not help with this condition if we continue to cause flare ups with triggers be they food, beverage or life style choices....

Talk over the results and what you can do with your Dr. and let us know your progress.
