Hi there,
I was on Beta blockers (Sotacor) and when I got diagnosed with Barrets Esophagus, my GI doc spoke to the Cardio and they stopped the BB's due to the fact that it relaxes the LES (tymmy-valve) even more! It is not a serious side-effect but the BB's can contribute to more GERD symptoms.
Having said that: I know that a Doc would not prescribe Beta blockers if it was not necessary, so she MUST continue taking them, but mention it to the GI doc.
Hope it helps.
I took Atenolol and related beta blockers along with Prevacid and PPI's for twelve years with no drug interaction. I'm not a health professional and not qualified to give advice, but can give my opinion based on experience.
I agree with Londres70, and suggest I had no problems taking both types of drugs.
I don't know of any contraindications/drug interactions between these two medications. Please refer to the leaflet provided with EACH medication and check this. You can always ask your pharmacist as well.
