Is my GERD causing weird stool colors?

Hey guys I have GERD and am on 40mg/day of omeprazole indefinitely. Anyway, I have been examining my stool recently and sometimes I have very light brown stool, most often light green stool, and one time orange brown stool (more brown than orange).

What is causing the random color change? My stool is often green or light brown but never dark brown like it used to. Is it my GERD?

I recently had a barium swallow which detected a large hiatus and "thickening of the gastric fold" which could be gastritis. So could this be causing the light brown / green stool colors?

Stool color has everything to do with speed of digestion, and also is an indicator of bile/liver function.  Green stools are a result of rapid digestion, very pale stools are usually a result poor pancreatic/liver functions.  If you have a concern, I'd ask your doctor for a blood test to determine organ function.

If you are on omeprazole, there is no stomach acid left to completely digest the natural colors of the food you are eating. Try eating some fresh beetroot and enjoy the dark red for the next three days. Or a big bag of blueberries, which will turn the stool blue. Carrots might come out more orange. This is completely normal and no cause of worry.
