Is this also a symptom of Gerd or gastritis??

My mother is 63 yrs old, she has suffered from rheumatoid  arthritis for years and is constantly taking strong medicine that has clearly messed up her stomach. She has also been diagnosed with gastritis, and for the most part has it under control, lately though she had a pretty bad flare up and we ve tried, prilosec and mylanta, which have definitely helped. Today though she woke up with a sore throat and when she went to eat, she couldn't,  her tongue would sting. Has anyone experienced this before too? If so what are some recommendations?? Any suggestions will be welcomed. Thanks guys.
