Is this gerd or an ulcer?

a few weeks ago I noticed a sore throat that wouldn't go away I also asked a couple times then I started having burning across my chest and between my breasts and a pain at the top of my stomach or underneath my breast it is pretty sensitive touch or at least one my son is climbing on me I went to the urgent care and they suspected it was acid reflux so I made some diet modifications and I went to the doctor and he prescribed omeprazole for 30 days at the highest dosage after a few days of taking it I noticed that it's giving me some bad side effects I asked him to send me to a GI doctor but he would not do it unless I tried the medicine first I'm getting a little frustrated first because I would like to know exactly what I have if this is in fact reflux or if its an ulcer which scares me more I've been drinking cabbage juice for 3 days and just started taking DGL hoping to go in more natural route but I'm scared not to take some medicine last night I started having some discomfort by my right ribs but I don't know if its the guys from all the cabbage juice and the lentils I ate or if it could be something else does this sound familiar to anybody else?

Hi and welcome to the GERD forum.

Do look at the list of foods to avoid with reflux as the above poster mentioned as these foods can trigger your symptoms to flare.....

Only a Dr exam and testing can determine exactly what is going on, so do see a GI Dr for that.

In the meantime avoid  greasy, acidic, spicy, caffeine, alcohol, smoking.....as all of these can trigger symptoms...I will try to get back to you with a link to our Health page list of foods to avoid....also try to relax as stress is yet another trigger.

cabbage juice does not sound like a good idea .you want to stay away from gassy vegetables .there is a list you can find online try about *******.low fod map foods it will also tell you the high fodmap foods wich are gassy.stay away from anything spicy .sometimes bacteria can become unbalanced in the gut .extreme periods of stress can be a factor .could you have eaten something that was bad from somewhere you ate.or a certain incident you can relate the onset of your symptoms.a probiotic may help with your symptoms. plain yogurt and kefir milk are 2 foods you can eat with probiotic effects.kefir is a source of certain probiotics that help remove candida when it digs in to the walls of the intestines and really helps to knock out candida overgrowth.it is also a good source of protien and is made from kefir grain.no lactose ,gluten if you are lactose intolerant.you might want to stay away from sugar t see if that is aggravating things.
