Is this just indegestion

I was prescibed omeprazole 20mg (gastro-resistant capsule) by the doctor a week and half ago as i had gastroentortis and also chest pains that the doctor said was indegestion.  The doctor said to go back after a week if still had symtoms.  Went back friday still experiencing chest pains.  The doctor just told me to keep a diary of the pains for 2 weeks.  The discomfort is in my sternum area of my chest and comes and goes and also burping alot.  Is this still indegestion or something else?  It is worrying me having the pains and a bit worried about having wait 2 weeks to see doctor again.  Should the Omeprazole of kicked in by now been taking now for about 10 days.

Any advise be much appeciated.

Ok..rennies r a tablet for reflux....not sure y the dr told u to drink milk tho...
Testing for H.Pylori is a good thing....but if this doesn't show u may want to ask to see a GI dr....just to be sure u do not have a gall bladder issue or a hiatal hernia.....things a GP can not  or usually does not test for.

I hope u feel better soon

No this just my GP.  I went back to the doctor yesterday showed him the diary i been keeping and told him how i feeling.  He says it is all to do with too much acid in my stomach which is causing all the pain and discomfort.  He has give me some Ranitidine 150mg to take twice a day as well as the omeprazole.
I also went for blood tests today to check for Helicobacter pylori.
I'm to go back to see the doctor when i finish the cause of Ranitidine and find out the blood test results and what will happen next.

Rennies are chewable tablets for releif of heartburn and indegestion.

HI...I must ask is this a GI dr or a PCP?

Milk and dairy products can make this feel worse...they tend to slow the LES and that allows the acid to come up into ur esophagus....so do try to avoid milk and dairy in teh latter part of the day. What r rennies?

If this is not a GI dr ask to be referred to one.

Thanks for your help and support.

Well I called my doc on Thursday cos was worried as still had these pains after 2 weeks on the Omeprazole but he still thinks just indegsetion and to try Rennies and drink milk so tried that.
Then yesterday at work it was really hot.  My chest was sore and i began to find breathing difficult.  I left work to drive home felt terrible driving.  I nearly went straight to doctor but didn't. i made it home. Felt a bit better after about an hour.  Later that evening my mouth and throat was very dry.  I drank 3 glasses of water but it did nothing.  Felt terrible was very close to going up to the hospital.  I went to my bed, my dry mouth and throat went away over night.  Woke in morning feeling very tired and rough.  Can all this be just indegestion?  I'm not due to go back to doctor till Friday.  Should i go back sooner?
