LPR, how to seek a diagnosis?

Hello.

I suspect I've been suffering from laryngopharyngeal reflux (or something very similar) since I was a child. It always bothers me, but as of late, it's been rather intolerable. I've brought it up with my doctor before, but said she hadn't heard of it, and told me to take some Tums and tell her if I feel better. She said "people don't just get diagnosed with acid reflux, either you have it or you don't".

I've since switched to a different doctor, but at the risk of sounding more neurotic than I'm sure I already do, I'm reluctant to ask him about this "silent" disease.

How do I go about this??

Your doctor hasn't heard of laryngopharyngeal reflux? Oh lord.  See my other answer as my mother is free of severe GERD and LPR....

Hi there,

To confirm LPR:  you can see an ENT Specialist and have a Laryngoscope done.  If you have LPR the ENT will see reflux damage to your larynx, throat.

I like Kresser's articles.  I'm sure your doctor had a PPI handy. You just had a lucky escape. I've seen the damage an acid blocker can do and it's not pretty. Cheers. :)

Yeah, shortly after posting this, I happened upon Chris Kresser's website. Rethinking my plans now, as I'm sure my doctor, if anything, would only suggest PPIs.

Thanks.
