Is it GERD?

After attempting some research, it seems like it might fit, but I'm not sure. About a month and a half ago, I started to experience constant nausea and diarrhea. This came with some chills, headaches, and the feeling of having something stuck in my throat, almost with the texture of a fly or tick, if you can follow me on that. Very dry and scratchy, but not necessarily painful, located in one area of my throat and very noticeable. These symptoms went on for approximately 2 and a half weeks. I don't have the greatest health when it comes to illness, but I rarely get something so extreme, almost never feeling nausea at that level, but there was never vomiting. It worried me so much that I wound up going to the ER, not being able to wait for my family doctor to reopen the next Monday. The doctor said it appeared to be nothing more than a stomach virus. He gave me some medication that simply settled the nausea and told me to ride it out, which I did. It started to become very intermittent, only getting slight nausea every few days, until it finally stopped. It's been maybe 2-3 weeks since I've experienced anything further, up until a few days ago. I started feeling a little off, but nothing more than a scratchy throat and a slight loss of appetite. Today, the diarrhea and nausea have kicked back in, along with the feeling of something stuck in my throat. It could very well be strep throat, however I had my tonsils removed about 3 years ago after a doctor's referral, getting strep up to 8 times a year for a few years. I know it's still possible to get strep, but unlikely. The only other real explanation I've found through online searches was GERD, which I really don't know much about. As for history, my mother has believed for years that she has acid reflux but has never been to a doctor to get it checked, as well as telling me herself that I've shown some of the signs she has since I was young, which I'm not all too sure what they are. Should I get checked for it or could it be something simpler such as a stomach virus that my body is either having trouble getting rid of or catching repeatedly?

And just a side note: The nausea could not be morning sickness. I haven't taken any pregnancy tests (unless the doctor ran one with the other blood tests), but it's been around 4 months since I've had sex, and I have been having regular periods.

I did see a doctor, and he said nothing seemed out of the ordinary, declared it a stomach virus, and sent me on my merry way with some medication to help my nausea. I know that can't be right, especially at that length. I'm going to try for either Monday or Tuesday to go to the family doctor and see if there's anything they can come up with.

Hi,

I would strongly suggesst u see ur dr...and find out what is going on....ne thing that persists for 3 or more days u need to have checked.

U could have post nasal drip that can infact casue the nausea u mentioned and the bowel issues.....it will also affect ur throat and cause u to have acid reflux.

I am not saying this is in fact ur problem, just that it is possible. If u also have allergies ur post nasal drip was probably a bit more than normal.

Please see ur dr...or a GI and an ENT and let us know how u r doing
