I am a 43 yr old female who has been diagnosed with GRD, gastritis, hiatel hernia, diverticulitis and most recently...gastro paresis (sp?). I am on 40 to 80 mg of Nexium a day. My most recent bout with this condition started at the end of September 2011 and I have been unable to work since the first week of October 2011, due to this condition. Nearly anything I eat, no matter how bland or small the portion seems to cause my intestines to knot up and trap gas in my upper GI tract. You can literally feel the knots at my sternum and around my ribcage. This causes pressure and tightness in my chest, making breathing very difficult and causing episodes of high anxiety. I am also experiencing coughing spasms that cause the gas to move further into my chest, causing short episodes of tightness and extreme shortness of breath and severe wheezing. This has gotten worse around my menstrual cycle. I have taken Librax and Reglan with some relief, but neither works all of the time. I have recently had an EDG and the biopsy showed some microscopic damage to my esophagas. I am scheduled for a PH study on the 26th of January. I was scheduled for the 12th of January, but I now have the flu to go along with my other complications. For the past two days, I have had lots of movement within my GI tract, but I am staying bloated and the coughing spasms (which are productive) have kept me awake at night since they are worse when I lay down. I am also experiencing random bouts of nausea which Phenergen does help (Zofran does nothing for me). Since I am no longer able to find Mylanta (have been told that they do not make it anymore), I am taking a generic version that has helped some. However, I am also having problems with diarrhea and the Mylanta version only worsens the problem. This has been going on for several months and I am not finding anything that is giving me enough relief to continue normal life functions. Is there anyone who has gone through the same thing that can give me any answers as to what I need to do? I have lost 24 lbs since last October and I have had times that I felt I was getting better, only to relapse and go back to square one. If anyone has any insight that I could discuss with my doctors, it would be greatly appreciated!!
