Questions to ask Surgeon?

Hi all,

I have a consult with the Surgeon in Adelaide (not the retired Surgeon, but his Associate) next week about getting a date for the Nissen Fund. and I have all my previous scopes and reports and everything ready and a bit anxious about it all when I read on here about people wanting to reverse Nissen Funds and complications and going for 3rd and 4th time!

I am now on 60-80mg of Nexium a day and not getting any relief so when I think about postponing or even backing out, I know that I have tried all the other remedies, are on maximal medicine treatment and still symptomatic, don't smoke, don't drink, don't eat unhealthy and nothing major to cut out of diet, sleeping on left side with propped up pillows... so then I basically think I need this surgery and hopefully soon, so that I can recover and start enjoying life again.

Can you please give me inputs on the type of questions I should ask him?  We live 600km from Adelaide and I don't really know what to expect post-op.  Will I be able to travel soon after the op?  follow-ups?

Any inputs will be appreciated.

The first question I'd ask, is how many of the procedures have you done?  My second question would be, how do you determine the size of the wrap around the esophagus?  My third question would be what kind of dietary advice will I have after the surgery.  I'd also request references.  I followed this protocol and had a wonderful result.
I do think those with positive results don't post as often as those with negative results.  I also think that one must resolve prior to the surgery to follow the Nissen Fundoplication diet exactly as prescribed.
Best wishes.  Procede with confidence, but follow directions!

Hi...just wanted to send u good vibes and all for ur meeting with the surgeon, I have not had this surgery so really can not help with pointers on ?'s to ask.....

I will offer some I had for other surgery I did have- how can I contact u if I find I have a ? after we leave today...ask for a e-mail direct to the Dr....what is the recovery period like, things to avoid, how long.....

If this is an overnight stay...take ear plugs, the night staff work like it is the middle of the day....

Comfy jammies...many times a hospital is cool, and sometimes warm be prepared for either....

Also have ur meds list printed on sheets to give ur Dr, and the nurses that will be taking care of u....

  Good luck : )
