Rx Pain (Prevacid) orsomething else...

I'm pretty scared....  I don't know what to think.

44 about to be 45 year old white male  I had heart disease at an early age but other than that, no health problems.

About a year now I have had very bad acid reflux and at times due to the damage it was causing, I had lots of trouble swallowing.   Before I started taking prevacid ...I wasn't able to swallow ANY kind of food that had any kind of heat to it..and by heat I mean spicy, I don't mean temperature wise.   As a matter of fact, the heat actually helped me swallow so obviously, spicy foods made me esophogus.

10 months ago, I had an upper endoscopy at the Emergency room because a tiny piece of chicken made it where I could not swallow even my own spit.
They found irritation but nothing else.  10 months later my esophagus got so sore (I was treating with zantac)..l was having regular spasms where I couldn't drink water sometimes and I was starting to have pain shoot into my chest, my back and under my arms.   I didn't have any pain in the actual location of the stomach though.

I started Prevacid OTC the next day.  Almost immediately the swallowing problem got better.  It's about 7 days into it now.  The pain in my back and chest have ALMOST completely gone (just an occasional twinge).  BUT, ***NEW*** pain Primarily located on the stomach itself (lower left near the floating rib where it ends).
I also have some similar shooting pain and the sensation of cramping muscles in my middle back toward that same area...a little "off" from that area.

Stomach pain is listed as one of the side effects of prevacid.
Obviously I'm afraid of the possibility of cancer.
they didn't find any 10 months ago but I don't know how quick it would appear.

The MOVEMENT of the pain from one area to another is weird.  The fact they ddin't find anything to speak of other than irritation...10 months ago is a good sign I THINK....
I welcome everyone's opinion.

I'm sorry. I forgot to ask about your heart and what happened. Are you taking aspirin or any other blood thinner?

You were tested just 10 months ago so the chances of you having cancer are so low. Will your Dr go ahead and do another scope just to be sure? I do think your pain is most likely caused from the Prevacid bit I'm not a Dr. I've just been through this myself with some of the PPI's like Prevacid. Have you thought about changing meds to see it that helps?

thank you for your comments.  I'm more afraid it could be cancer than anything else.   I don't know how fast it can develop but 10 months ago I didn't have it.

I don't mind the pain if it's the prevacid but if it's not...I really don't like the lat

Yes, sometimes the PPI's like Prevacid can cause stomach pain.
Are you having problems with constipation? I'm asking because that can cause the pain you're describing. If that's not the problem you should see your Dr and talk about trying a different medication. Have you even been on Bentyl? I've heard it can stop the stomach and esophagus spasms.
