I wonder if you're talking about an infections caused by Enterococcus bacteria?

They seem to typically include urinary tract infections, bacteremia, bacterial endocarditis, diverticulitis, and meningitis. Sensitive strains of these bacteria can be treated with ampicillin and vancomycin but it can also be pretty resistive to antibiotic treatments.
