Throat dryness

I'm not sure if this is related to GERD but I've had this throat issue since mid 2007. I had an inflammation in the throat sometime around October 2007 which persisted for a while so in November I went to the doctor and was prescribed augmentin. The pain went away and everything seemed to have been alright for a while. Now i battle with dryness of the throat and sometimes tightening of the throat. What could be the problem?

Hi Selma,

Yeah, seen the watch list check box. Will do. I really do wish I could go see a doctor soon but I'm an international student and can't afford it. It's not that bad as yet(I know that can be dangerous) but I'm hoping I could go home in December and see a specialist. I realize it gets a lot more uncomfortable on Mondays... presumably after singing in church the day before (though I don't do that much) I just hope it's not growing into a much worse problem slowly.

Thanks Selma. I didn't realise I had a reply to my enquiry. For some reason I thought I would be notified by email but Im glad I came to check. I do breathe through the mouth sometimes but not too often. It's an on and off thing, for instance I feel very normal right now compared to when I sent the post. usually when I strain the throat too much(I guess), like sing a lot or talk a lot or attempt shouting a couple of times a couple of times in a day or successively, I get that sensation.
I checked on "cricopharyngeal spasm" but the symptoms are not like what I get. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I am not a dr and do not know what ur issue could be...without more info a dr could not tell either.I would suggest u see ur dr again and explain ur symptoms.
I wonder if I may ask r u a mouth breather?...if so this could be the cause of ur dry throat.

As for the tightness try and google this :cricopharyngeal spasm.....and see if it sounds like ur issues and mention it to ur dr.

Please update us...or if u have ne other questions we r here and will try to answer and we r here for support!!
