Unknown chest pain.... GERD?

Hi all! So I am writing for my husband, who has been having some problems. So lets start with a back history. He is 28 years old, and for the past 5 or 6 years, about once every three months he would get this severe chest pain with acid reflux where it feels better when he leans forward and it hurts to lay down in bed at night... he almost has to do so sitting up. Well during the past year, it has gotten worse, where it shows up about once a month and lasts about 4 or 5 days. He has gotten numerous pills because dr's think it is acid reflux, but none of them seem to take away the pain permanently or at all. It's like it gets worse when after he has a few drinks, and the pain seems to move. That's what he complains about the most is that the pain moves. It can start on his lower right side of his stomach, and travel all the way up to his left shoulder, but most of the time it's in his right side. Then he says that when the pain is in his shoulder, it's almost like a stabbing pain in his shoulder. And all of this is accompanied by an inability to burp. Does this sound like anything anyone has had? It's nothing to do with his heart either. He has had all of that checked out, and all is good. No one seems to be able to figure it out. He has an appt with a GI dr this week, so maybe we will be able to figure more out, but just wondering if these symptoms sound familiar. Thanks in advance!!!!

we are not sure why he cannot burp. It's like when he tries to burp, food comes up. So he just doesn't do it. He had a barium swallow, and that came back clear, but I guess those all that accurate. He is going to the GI this week, so hopefully we can get some answers :)

Thanks for the reply selma!
They did check out his gall bladder and all is fine. I checked out the symptoms of H. Pylori and he really doesn't have any of the symptoms. He isn't throwing up, has normal bowel movements, ect. And the pain really isn't in his stomach. It's more in his upper/lower chest, behind his breast bone and in his shoulders....

Hi KTDID,  and welcome to the GERD forum.

Have they looked at his Gall Bladder? My father had issues very similar and was in and out of the ER 5x's and he said I think it is my Gall Bladder and they kept saying it didn't show that on the testing....finally they realized it was the GB and it was removed...I believe he know also has H.Pylori...which he now has meds for.....

May I ask , does he have an IBS issues as well?
