Hi, I am 26 years old (male) and about a month ago I had a food bolus in my esophagus and had to go to the ER. The bolus apparently passed, but felt like it was still there, but after drinking a glass of water they sent me home. After that, I had trouble swallowing food, it felt like it was getting stuck 1/2 way down in my esophagus then it would go through.
Well 2 weeks after the food bolus, my throat felt like there was a huge obstruction in it, so I went to my family doctor and he told me gerd and told me to take prilosec. A couple days after that my throat would get really tight and I went back to my family dr.'s office and a different doc told me it was anxiety. I then went to an ENT who said his area was clear and so was the barium swallow x-ray.
The gastro dr. told me it could either be hypersensitivity, globus sensation, or Esophilic esophagitis. Well I started to feel better, but after I had an EGD (which was clean) I was told that I had to wait on the biopsy; and the day after my EGD my symptoms were bad again (the doctor did try and dialate even though there were no strictures). The biopsy came back and the nurse called me and told me that it was GERD and continue to take prilosec and if things don't get better in a few weeks call back and they will do a pressure test on my swallowing.
My symptoms currently are a lump in my throat on the right side betwen my clavicle that sometimes is better or worse depending on the day, a gurgling in the same area of my throat after drinking water, eating, or when sleeping, the muscles in that area sometimes get very tight and I feel like I am strangling, difficulty sleeping, and I have difficulty swallowing. I have been having panic attacks over the last few days b/c of all these issues and no answers, I was just wondering if anybody else has had similar issues (also I was prescribed Valium by my one family doc and it takes care of some of the muscles issues and sleeping but not the lump in throat). I was just wondering if anybody has been down the same road before? Also, I know this is a topic of discussion, but my wife thought I have been getting stressed out before I choked on the chicken, what are the thoughts on the relationship between anxiety and gerd?
