GERD question

Hi, I am 26 years old (male) and about a month ago I had a food bolus in my esophagus and had to go to the ER.  The bolus apparently passed, but felt like it was still there, but after drinking a glass of water they sent me home.  After that, I had trouble swallowing food, it felt like it was getting stuck 1/2 way down in my esophagus then it would go through.

Well 2 weeks after the food bolus, my throat felt like there was a huge obstruction in it, so I went to my family doctor and he told me gerd and told me to take prilosec.  A couple days after that my throat would get really tight and I went back to my family dr.'s office and a different doc told me it was anxiety.  I then went to an ENT who said his area was clear and so was the barium swallow x-ray.

The gastro dr. told me it could either be hypersensitivity, globus sensation, or Esophilic esophagitis.  Well I started to feel better, but after I had an EGD (which was clean) I was told that I had to wait on the biopsy; and the day after my EGD my symptoms were bad again (the doctor did try and dialate even though there were no strictures).  The biopsy came back and the nurse called me and told me that it was GERD and continue to take prilosec and if things don't get better in a few weeks call back and they will do a pressure test on my swallowing.

My symptoms currently are a lump in my throat on the right side betwen my clavicle that sometimes is better or worse depending on the day, a gurgling in the same area of my throat after drinking water, eating, or when sleeping, the muscles in that area sometimes get very tight and I feel like I am strangling, difficulty sleeping, and I have difficulty swallowing.  I have been having panic attacks over the last few days b/c of all these issues and no answers, I was just wondering if anybody else has had similar issues (also I was prescribed Valium by my one family doc and it takes care of some of the muscles issues and sleeping but not the lump in throat).  I was just wondering if anybody has been down the same road before?  Also, I know this is a topic of discussion, but my wife thought I have been getting stressed out before I choked on the chicken, what are the thoughts on the relationship between anxiety and gerd?

Hi, I know exactly how you feel. I have almost the same exact symptoms and still have no definite answers. I've been to every dr. imaginable to have all kinds of tests and everyone shows I'm fine. People that don't quite understand what I'm going through doesn't understand it, and tells me the problem swallowing is all in my head. I hate that comment. I've been going to a very good chiroprator and seems to think the problem is a physical nerve problem in effect causing a mental anxiety making it worse. You see I have pinched nerves in my neck and between my shoulders and my doc. says when they are pinched it is like turning a light off to the muscles. They don't get the right message. I've also been told I have gerd, but that never was a problem before. So not having answers caused a great deal of stress and caused me to have a bad case of panic and anxiety attacks. I know it's frustrating not having answers. Hang in there if you have any info. please share.

I guess the prilosec is for Gerd, but I have never had any reflux issues before. You can't lie down, what meds are you on for all of this?  and how long have you been on them?

So what is the priosec for?  im wondering that is a PPI   if you dont have acid Im wondering why he is having you take that   I'm thinking he thinks the lump maybe be from a small amount of reflux   my throat muscles got so tight i could not move my neck

you sound better off than me I cannot lie down at anytime without my throat burning

I don't have any burning in my throat, but the only thing I have been told by my family doc, ent, and gi doc is to take prilosec 2x a day.....I don't really think it is working that well either.  After my endoscopy I started to have a pain where the lump in my throat is, but it feel like that is the muscles or something....

three weeks ago it started  just a terrible lump my throat,  that lasted about four days
ands then it turned into something much more evil   I cannot lie down without my throat
burning AS everome I went to two Docs and they just give you a bunch of meds
I did not have a barium but will go today  Let me ask you besides the lump feeling
do you have any reflux at night burning in your throat?  How is the prisolec?  I have tried nexium and it does not work at all   I'm thinking the lump may be a small amount of acid
and causing your throat to react   DO you have any pain in youre throat besides the lump?  My lump went away in three or four days it was very bad though
