chondritis?

I have GERD and probable chondritis.  Will GERD cause the condition or aggravate it, and does smoking aggravate chondritis?

I'm in the same boat. I was even told I had a hiatal hernia but one doctor who knew what he was doing read the x-rays correctly and told me I had an inflammation around the xyphoid process. He prescribed Advil. It helps but it upsets my stomach. It ***** that a small bone can cause so much discomfort. Have you made any progress?

Individually, no, GERD will not cause chondritis. A systemic illness (maybe some form of irritable bowel disease, like Crohn's) may be responsible for both. Depending on the condition, smoking may or may not have an effect on the chondritis.
