Scranton huh?...yeah we r neighbors : )
Well if scratched and an infection sets in...u may need an antibiotic to clear it up...I know others that had a scratch and developed thrush...some start with a sore throat , while others start with a thick tongue....
In some reading I did....thrush does not cause fever...it is a yeast infection......not sure if it is seen in WBC....from what I am reading it appears the WBC can be only slightly elevated with thrush...so do talk to ur dr...call the surgeon's office they should be able to call a RX into ur local pharmacy...also, if u ever had a yeast infection b4...ask about DIFLUCAN as well.
The other issue could be from all the drugs used for surgery...I have had GERD for many yrs and had it under control, but every time I have had a surgery it flares up...and it is due to the drugs used to sedate and for pain....
Just avoiding foods that may agitated u until this clears up may help u avoid the need for meds.

Hi....it is possible that that he scratched teh lining or moved some bacteria around...call ur dr and ask about an antibiotic or something to help with the issue u r having.
I do not think u got a disease from it...but it is possible an infection.
Let ur dr know ASAP to get this controlled b4 it gets out of hand.
