esophagitis!

Hi everyone,

Shortly after the birth of my second child I started to experience burn/dull ache in my chest, along with major weight loss- i had a c-section and was on pain killers, not sure this was the culprit. I had a scope and was diagnosed with esophagitis. Thing is before the diagnosis I never had any heartburn or signs of discomfort- it literally came of of nowhere. I was placed on ppi and the dull ache disappeared and once I stopped the meds I would experience heartburn everytime I had a coffee. This was new to me and I think it was the ppi that caused this. I took hcl and this got rid of any heartburn when I drank coffee! I was 5 months free of any discomfort and again out of nowhere came an esophagitis flare. I am so new to this, I'm back on the ppi to heal the flare but I would just love to hear from others who have gone thru this. I am scared to stay on the meds for good, has anyone had experience with esophagitis and is there any words of encouragement you pass on to me. I'm trying to keep positive about this but I'm not completely convinced that Gerd is my problem. Thank you in advanced for any responses, much appreciated!

Thanks for the reply, I don't have any symptoms when I am not experiencing a flare, with this current flare I have a major dull ache behind my breastbone. Its awful! I tried to let it go for weeks hoping I could heal without the drugs but that is just not the case :( I also have gastritis and it sounds like that's what your experiencing with your symptoms. Are you on ppi's? I think once you eradicate the h-pylori and let the stomach heal you should be good to go. Good luck in your healing...I feel your pain, it is so frustrating!

Do you have difficulty swallowing? Does your pain feel like heartburn? I'm going through some gi issues now too. I was just diagnosed with h pylori last week. I have to take 8 pills a day. I drink water and get this gurgling sensation in my throat and it makes it difficult to drink more water. It's like maybe I'm bloated. I hope you get answers. I hardly ever got heartburn before I got sick three weeks ago. Now since sick it has woken me up three times at night. Mylanta, tums, and prilosec do nothing. I have to take baking soda and water to relieve it. It *****!
