help

Hi there, got a brain teaser for the docs if interested…

It is common knowledge that smoking contributes and or exasperates GERD and Heartburn correct?  Well with me things are quite the opposite.  When I smoked I rarely if ever got GERD or Heartburn (yes I know the difference)  Ever since I quit smoking about a year and ½ ago I have had to be on 40mg of Omeprezole daily to combat the symptoms.  Sometimes I even have to pop some Tums in addition.  What on earth could cause this???  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I had somewhat of the same symptom, and it was explained to me that as the throat heals from the abuse of smoking, phlem runs into the stomach.  Most people experience hoarseness when they quit as the body heals.

It will get better.  Just stay off the pimp sticks.

Hi, it is highly possible u always had the GERD but u just did not have all the same symptoms u have now.

And if that is the case, just stop smoking will not make the issue go away...there r other lifestyle changes in addition to the stop smoking u already achieved and there r also dietary modifications u would need to implement as well.

See ur Dr for  more info  as this is a support forum....and all we can do is  offer suggestions from our experience.

Good luck and do keep us posted on ur progress
