symtoms of Gerd

Hi I would like to know if any one out there have had Gerd that suffers from pain in the left shoulder, left side of chest and it feels like a knot is in your throat.  I have had these symtoms for over a year and the doctors tells me that I hve Gerd.  I been on Nexium and just lately the Gastro doctor told me that I am depressed and I need to take a antidepressant.  I thought not, I haven't  had the heart beating fast in a while so I know that I am good.  I just would like to know what is the best thing to do medicine or surgery?

Ask ur pharmacist about how Cymbalta may react with the meds u r on already and if what u r experiencing is a side effect.

If u do not feel u r depressed, then u may want to get a second opinion.

ANd as was mentioned in another post, maybe u don't have enuff acids to break down the foods and this does feel like too much acid.....talk with ur dr again and suggest some of these ideas to see if they were ruled out.

But if the new meds made u feel sick, ask if it is a side effect and let the dr know ASAP netime u have a side effect from meds.

Thank you for your reply.  I went to the doctor the other day and he said that I was depressed and put me on Cymbalta.  I really don't believe that I am depress.  Everything is fine so far.  I haven't had anything difficult going on and I just wonder if they are just blowing me off because they don't know what is the problem.  I took that pill and I tell you I was sick to my stomach and man I just cant cut it.  I took 30mg and I don't know if that is too strong or what but it is a booger.

See an Internist.  Ask about taking Malic Acid and Digistive enzymes.  You may not be producing proper levels of acid and digestive enzymes to break down your food, therefore creating the symptoms of gerd.  Then ask to ween off of the antacids.  Good Luck!

Hi bip is right...u do need to modify ur diet.
U also need to find ways to relax, as stress can add to the problem.

Our health pages have info on diet and lifestyle changes u may want to look at.

Also, ask ur dr to check ur thyrois and be sure none of ur other issues can be associated with it. ( swollowing)

Once u have the excess acid under control u should be able to stop the meds...but if u flare right away after stopping the meds u may want to find the root of the problem....like if u have a hiatal hernia or bacteria or even gall bladder issues.
