Am I suffering from SOD?

I am a middle age woman who 8-10 years ago began to suffer from pains in my right side and lower abdomen (my gall bladder was removed when these symptoms started, I had gall stones and I thought these were causing the pain). Later on I began to suffer pains again and had a colonoscopy , scan and endoscopy and nothing was found.  I was told I was suffering from irritable bowel.  Then the pain dissapeared I was fine for two years when it repeated, had more tests, again nothing was found so the doctor suggested that I could be suffering from Sphincter of Oddi Disfunction.  When I did my research on the subject I did not want to have the intervention to confirm the diagnosis.  I was fine for few years and now I began to have the same symptoms again.  I am afraid of eating and for this I lose weight.  My bowel is irritated and the pain goes from my right side to my abdomen and lower abdomen.  There is not vomiting. I feel very tired, worried and stressed. I have an appointment with the doctor on Friday but I do not have much hope on English doctors.  I am from Argentina where there a different relationship between doctor and patient is built up.  I have been  living in England for more than 10 years.
What can I do?  Am I suffering from SOD?
Thanks

Thank you very much for your comment.  I am feeling much better now.  What baffles me is the fact that the symptoms appear overnight and can continue for few weeks and then dissapear.

I will watch what I eat and talk about this with my doctor.

Thank you again.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

The pain could be due to Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. Only investigations could help diagnose. The other causes for pain could be GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease), where the acid contents of the stomach came up into the esophagus and peptic ulcer disease. If the other pathologies can be ruled out then there is an entity called Irritable Bowel Sydrome (IBS). Once a diagnosis has been confirmed then an appropriate diet schedule can be planned. Discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him next time.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
