Diet for post op for patients that have their colon removed

My mother just had her entire colon removed. She is having problems with eating enough. I would like to make some meals ahead to freeze for her so it will make her life easier...does anyone have any ideas or where i can get recipes that would be suited for this type of diet?

thank you very much !!

Hi - first of all may I invite you to log on to:-

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/523166

where I describe my own experiences after a total colectomy.

In this posting I also include my own approach to eating after the operation.  I followed this diet at the time mainly to reduce the "liquidity" of my motions and avoid anal soreness arising from the corrosive nature of the liquid motions.

Lastly it may be worth your mother asking her surgeon if she could be suffering from a lingering ileus (see my posting for a further explanation) which might cause a reduced appetite.

Do come back with any further questions you may have

Good luck

She might want to consider following a low residue diet. I think you can find representative examples at gicare.com. In addition. you might check with Morecambe a member on the board who has worked out dietary parameters for this condtion. Check for some of the posts, or send a message.
