I have been developing a type of syndrome over the past few months or so. It seems like every two or three weeks I will have an urgent and very stinky bowel movement (type 6), that feels like a blowout and clearing of my colon, but not diarrhea. I will then have relatively small (volume) movements for a couple of days, and then apparently normal movements (type 4), but occasionally smaller than what would be expected for the volume of food intake. Occasionally, I would have minor constipation. My personal feeling, and sense, is that feces cake up on the side of my colon somewhere, and sits there while normal ingestion bypasses it. Then, eventually, just before the release, movements and gasses become extremely stinky. I hardly ever have diarrhea, cramps (except at release), abdominal pain, fever or nausea, or any other IBS symptoms. Naturally, I tend to gain some weight during this buildup. Not sure if it's relevant, but the blowouts usually happen at night, just before bed, or during bedtime.
I am a healthy male, in his 70's. I take alpha blockers, beta blockers and omeprazole daily. Additionally I supplement with multivitamins and probiotics.
Much of this post was precipitated by an episode I had sitting at the computer a couple of days before a release. Felt like my heart was stopping, warm feeling eminating from my chest, similar to the feeling just before you pass out. No pain at all. The feeling subsided, and of course anxiety set in. Saw my GP, and cardiologist, and had a full cardio vascular workup, with no problems found. After that I looked up toxic bowel, and noticed some similarities, but no doctor has suggested anything about it.
Thoughts and comments appreciated.
