Flu?

Is it possible to have the stomach flu twice in a little over a month? On Christmas Day my husband was sick, vomited once and had bad diarrhea for almost a day. Today he came home from work and had bad diarrhea. Both times he slept quite a bit but rebounded very quickly. Is this the flu or could it be something else? Should he go to the doctors?  I should also mention that he almost never gets sick, or has the flu.  He is 63.

If it's just diarrhea with vomiting and nothing else, I would have him see his doctor to be on the safe side. We're at that age when things start to go south and we need to stay one step ahead of it all.  I once got the flu back to back, but with other symtoms. Did he start getting his colonoscopies at 50, this is imperative. It's harder to stay hydrated when you are going at both ends, which in itself is dangerous.  Anytime he can drink plenty of water, Gatorade and orange juice is good.  We lose electrolytes when going from both ends and these things will replenish them....eating a banana will replace lost potassium as well. See if it happens again and if so, have him see his doctor.  Take care.

He did complain of feeling achy and said his stomach was hard and bloated.  No, no colonoscopies, which I guess in the back of my mind has me a bit worried.  He was always going to go, but just never did.  Thanks for posting a reply.  He is feeling much better and ate some soup and a sandwich.  I guess we will wait and see and if it happens again he is going to the doctors.
