GI distress in 21yr old woman

Hello, I am 21 year old woman and have been suffereing from digestive distress for quite some time now. I exersice everyday and eat very healthy. In the past few years I have found that I become constipated regurally and can no longer tolerate red meats or processed foods. I stick to a pretty regular diet of fish, chicken, rice, fruits and vegtables. However, I become painful and takes days for bowel movements. I try drink green tea after meals to help, but more now I am resorting to over-the-counter digestive aids. What could I change to help this without resorting to harsh pills and what could I possibly have that is ausing this condition? Thank you.a

Thank you so much for the advice. I have started to eat more natural fibers and I also purchaced a probiotic. I will keep with this for several weeks and if no improvement I will ask to be checked out by a med professional. Thanks so much!

The one word that answers your problem "Fiber" You should add more fiber to your diet, whole grains, legumes (Beans) or you can look up high fiber foods for a list. Or the old natural stand by for a natural laxative is just four ounce glass of all natural Prune Juice, it is high in fiber and regulates you, just drink it before, after ro during a meal. If you still continue to have this problem, maybe a thyroid panel including TSH, Free T3 and Free T4, Don't let an MD talk you out of the Free's, if he says they are not needed, walk away and go to an MD that will do the bloodwork you request, not what he thinks you need or don't need. The MD that agrees to do these tests will let you know if you have a thyroid issue or not. Constipation is a common
symptom of underactive thyroid, if diet changes do not work, then get the thyroid exam. Good Luck FTB4
