How many of you suffer from gastroparesis? How do you cope with all the discomfort that it causes and how many of you are very underweight because of all the issues this illness causes? Shari

I have all the symtoms of Gastroparesis except 1, the weight loss. I was recently diagnosed, however, I've gained about 47 pounds in 9 months, going from a size 8 to a size 14. My stomach now looks like I am 6 or 7 months pregnant, and it's only the upper part of my stomach that is distended. My doctor put me on a fructose-free diet, because my resting sugar (hydrogen breath test) was extremely high and my body isn't properly breaking down the sugar I engest. Today I had the Nuclear Medical Gastric Emptying Study and will find out the results tomorrow. Does anyone else have the big distended belly?

My son takes medication (erythrocin) for his gastroparesis.  That seems to help a lot.  Are you taking anything or just altering your diet?
