Gradual onset of esophageal spasm

Just wondering if it is normal for an esophageal spasm to start as a milder pain/uncomfortableness in abdomen and then build up to excruciating pain over 20-30 minutes?

sorry, i am getting seen by a doctor and a gastroenterologist. they are trying to identify if i have gall stones or esophageal spasm. both can cause the excruciating pain i have had, but i was more wondering if anyone else has had an esophageal spasm that has come on gradually, ie. got worse over 20 or so minutes.

If it's happened more than once, see your doctor. Sounds like gall bladder colic, but, remember, I'm NOT a doctor.

I know when my gallstones passed through, I was in too much pain to go to the ER (and it costs $650 to go by ambulance in this city.) Found out from my doctor that it was better to schedule surgery that to get it through the ER. The surgeon is more prepared. Then again, just my experience, so I'm not even sure it is the gall bladder. One thing for sure "excruciating pain" is a very good reason to see your doctor though.
