Good, I'm glad she is going better!
my daughter is doing 100% better on low fat low fiber diet!!! amazing!!!
Thank you so much..I am going to try to control this thru diet as much as possible...
A gastroparesis diet is a low-fat, low-fiber diet, as well as eating many small meals throughout the day. Some people find that a liquid or pureed food diet works better.
yes it is. yes we live in the US. I want to try to manage this with diet as much as possible, but realize drugs are necessary sometimes. Any diet thoughts?
Reglan has possible side-effects and long-term effects just like many drugs do. I think it is approved for use in children, but I am not sure about that. Do you live in the US?
how dangerous is reglan? especially for a 9yr old??
Good, I'm glad she has a diagnosis. You can talk to your doctor about different diets (low-fat, low-fiber, many small meals throughout the day), medications (reglan, domperidone), or alternative treatments.
Well they have diagnosed my daughter with gastroparesis. Any thoughts???
I cannot remember her meds at that time. All they gave her for the test was 6oz of radio active oatmeal which just went right thru..That was 1 1/2 yr ago. Now they will redo a couple of tests plus the ph study. She woke up with a bad cough today and cannot clear her throat. She says her chest hurts again.I am assuming from pressure build up. Hopefully we can get scheduled soon and we will go into the hospital soon....
That is standard procedure for a gastric emptying scan (the not eating for 12 before). The meals that they will make you eat vary but I've read that the best one is the one that has you eat egg (protein), toast (carbohydrates), jam (sugar), and water (liquid). What meds was she on when she has the gastric emptying scan?
I think it was just that you can't eat for 12hours then they give them like 6oz of oatmeal. By that time things just go thru. I would like to see what it is like after normal day eating? I have requested a 24hr ph study to be done, and they want another endoscopy? we will see???? yes I have tried probiotics chamomile tea...I do not know...I agree she is way too young for this....gastro dr said today she can have gastroparisis and it not be related to the diabetes..we will see soon...I hope it is an easy fix....Thank you everyone for your ideas and input...I need help.....
Try some folk remedies. Heat pack, castor oil on flannel. Warm soups and Toast. Focus on relaxation techniques, like breathing. Diabetes is a very stressful disease and stress can have a profound effect on health.
Apple cider vinegar with water.
Fennel
Digestive enzymes
Acidophilus - Kefir
Some ideas - all the other suggestions are great as well.
What meds was she on when she has the gastric emptying scan? Most meds should be fine but meds like reglan or domperidone need to be stopped. I'm pretty sure that insulin won't affect the test results though.
We elevated her bed and she sleeps on a back rest pillow. I took away all spicy foods a while ago along with soda, tomato sauce and she does not eat at least 2 hours before bed.???
what is an HIDA scan? my daughter has been dealing with this for 2 years. had gastric emptying study that was stupid. She is on 3 meds 2 times a day plus insulin! which is terrible. I know it is not good for her. I am trying gluten free diet even though she tests neg for celiac. I am at a loss. Another gastric dr appt to go to Monday. Another night of reflux gagging stomach pain..do not know what to do????
I have a 12 yr old with the same symptoms she is diabetic type 1, miserable with stomach pains for 8 weeks all test done next test will be HIDA Scan
no gastroperesis normal GI results normal blood sugars 1AC 6.6
but pain in her stomach what to do?
Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Because she is a diabetic and she has gastroparesis symptoms, I would recommend talking to your doctor about a gastric emptying scan to test for gastroparesis.
With acid reflux it's all about diet, and keeping the head of her bed elevated to prevent the acid from flowing back into her esophagus. Spicy foods tend to make it worse, you should pull foods from her diet one by one to see if she improves until you find the culprit. Juices can also make this worse. If she isn't on any medication for the reflux ask her doctor about it, there are many medications to help with this. She's too young to have to be dealing with this, and I hope this helps. Best wishes.
