Heart Palpations after eating

I started last week that after I eat I get heart palpations that will start while I am sitting and will remain for hours (2-4) after even if I am up and around. It seems that if I get up after I eat I do not have the palapations. I also have severe upper abdominal bloating and have had that for at least 8 months now, even when I have not eaten a lot. I am soon to be 47 and have hypothryroidism but otherwise healthy except for being overweight.

Thanks for your info BigKev!
I saw my doctor last week and they are thinking that it is a hiatial hernia. She put me on Protonix and within a day or two I had relief!  She feels that I should only have to be on medication for about 8 weeks and it will hopefully heal. I think your diagnosis is correct "doctor"!  :)  Hopefully with the medication and a good exercise and weight loss program I can be rid of this for good!
I'm glad I didn't use this site and other sites to diagnosis me. I had also seen my gyne doctor last week and she said what symptoms I have are NOT symptoms of peri-menopausal as I read on here and other sites. It is always good to see your doctor. They are not always right, but hopefully the majority of the time they are. :)
Thanks again and God Bless!

I have suffered this for more years than I can remember.
I have a hiatus hernia and GERD which is inflammation of the stomach and esophagus. Our stomach extends right up under the ribcage on the left hand side and that is called the 'cardiac' portion of the stomach.
When we eat the food goes into our stomach and it fills and extends and sometimes it pushes up towards our ribs and heart and there are nerves in that area that can be affected by pressure from our stomach.
The vagus nerve runs right down our middle to the top of our stomach area and it can react to stomach pressure and trigger electrical impulse malfunctions that control the heart rythm. They call it a 'vegus reaction'.
When you stand up and walk around the pressure is relieved because everything kind of sags down rather than pushes up under our ribs, and whatever is interfering with the rythm is freed of pressure and it all stops once the bloating goes down. It takes a couple of hours for the stomach to partly empty in the duodenum which is lower down and then things relax.
Do you take anything for your bloating? Antacid of any kind? Try Zantac effervescent and take some in water before you have a meal. See what happens.
I'm not a doctor but after 20 years of this and every test and opinion known to man I hav learned all of this.
It's 99.9% certain that yours is caused by indigestion and being overweight. (so am I)
Talk to your GP about this and see what he/she says. Try antacid first. Let's know how you get on.
best wishes, BigKev

You might want to go over to the heart disease forum and check out a post there. They are talking about the same thing. I guess the vagus nerve affects the esophegus and the heart as well. It's pretty interesting. I can't remember the exact title but it has PVC's and trapped gas in stomach, something like that. Anyway, you might find it interesting and may get some insight into what's going on with you.
Best wishes.
