High Liver Enzymes

I posted the other day about high liver enzymes and a medication called Ursidiol. My gastro put me on it after one of my "attacks" (feels the same as a gall bladder attack but my gall bladder has been removed).  Liver enzymes were very high (ALT 880 and AST 1,778) at the time of the last attack (have since come down to normal).  MRI was normal.  Gastro thinks maybe small stones which can't be seen on MRI, or something about sludge.  Has anyone taken this drug, or know anything about it?  I've done some research and it seems to be a pretty benign drurg, not many side effects, but I still hate to take anything I really don't have to.  My stomach is in pretty bad shape to start with, and I don't need to put anything else in it.  Does anyone know if a normal MRI means that there is really nothing wrong with the liver?

I have had high enzymes in my liver and all the test that I have been given have come back normal now my doctor wants me to get a biopsy to further find out what is going on with my liver. Every since I had GB removed I have started to have problems with high liver enzymes. They said I might have fatty liver but they found no fatty deposits in my liver my liver test came back normal they even gave me a series of hepatis test and they all came back negative but the enzymes continue to be high in my liver!

Thanks for the advise.  My gastro didn't recommend a liver specialist.  That scares me.  I don't really drink anyway, the occassional glass of wine or maybe a mixed drink every couple of weeks.  I will also ask about the ERCP.

Go to my post about ERCP and complications. I had high liver enzymes a couple months after GB removal. I was having severe attacks with the pain. They could not find anything through the imaging things. It wasn't until they did ERCP they found stones and sludge.

THe only way to tell what is or isn't "wrong" with your liver is to have a biopsy. An MRI can not "see" a lot. It can see tumors or masses and advanced liver damage but to KNOW the condition of your liver a liver biopsy is necessary. If I was you I'd see a liver specialist (heptologist) for further evaluation and I'd abstain from all alcohol until you sort this out.
