I FEEL LIKE I HAVE A FOREIGN OBJECT IN MY STOMACH

I have had stomach problems since 2003.  First I had my gallbladder taken out becuase the heptic scan came up with 0.  It was not working at all.  Since then, I still have the same complaints and problems which are:  severe pain in the upper left abdomen near the sternum.  I just recently completed a gastric emptying scan which showed that my stomach was only emptying 24%.  I am now on medication to help my stomach contract to empty.  But, in the middle of my stomach, I feel like someone has punched me in my gut, like a foreign object is sitting in my upper abdomen.  It is a nagging pain.  Sometimes it hurts so bad that I spend the entire day lying in bed.  When I do feel good, I eat my first meal of the day which is usually lunch and I immediately have diareah , feel nauseated like their is a hole in my stomach and very weak for the rest of the day.  This is usually when my stomach begins to hurt.  I have kept a journal of what I have eaten and it really does not seem to matter.  I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch today and within 1/2 I have to go to the bathroom and then feel sick for the rest of the day.  When I am sitting, I feel like something is in the way and that I have to stretch out or be in a lying position.  I am most comfortable lying on my left side.  I have had two real bad episodes where I felt like I was having a  heart attack.  I had abnormal EKG's both times but all of the stress tests and blood work come back fine.  The ER doctor thinks that is Gastro related.  Please help if you can give me any information.  I am tired of feeling so sick.   I have missed way too much work and this is becoming a way of life.

Obviously you need a squeeze-in appointment with a family doctor, an internist, or health clinic very soon.  That abnormal EKG is worrisome.  Many things can cause your symptoms.  But you should not be in all this misery and you need a general workup done.  By the way, an endoscopy can look in your stomach to see if there's anything in there.  Until you see the doctor, avoid eating fatty foods, which includes peanut butter.  To keep up your strength, liquid nutritional drinks with low fat should go down pretty well, or even skim milk and V-8.  When you take your stomach contract medicine, drink an entire glass of water with it.

ggreg has some great advice for you.  Just had an additional thought to add.  Since your pain is in the upper left quadrant, I'm wondering if you may not be having pancreas problems.  You may have sludge in the common bile duct that is preventing the pancreas from emptying its load of enzymes properly.  Pancreatitis can cause the symptoms you describe, and in the area you describe.   Might even be a Spincter of Oddi dysfunction involved.  Most certainly avoid fatty foods and all alcohol until you find out for sure what's happening, but get yourself back to the doc!
