Is there a motility doctor who helps treat gastroperesis?

My father has been diagnosis with gastroperesis. He has been suffering for several years now. We have tried doctors in Iowa City and Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. So far we have not had any luck finding anyone who can relieve his symptoms. He currently has an iliostomy and a power port which delivers meds. He suffers daily from nausea, vomitting, lightheadedness, sometimes to the point of passing out. He also has such immense pressure building up, his heart is stressed from it (though he does have a very strong heart) and it makes his breathing labored. I am willing to take him anywhere to ease his pain and attain some quality of life. He is only 58 years old and has been considered disabled from his condition. Is there a motility doctor anywhere that you would recommend?

I was diagnosed with GP a year ago and finally got significant relief through botox injections last January.  I love my doctor (Dr. Mustafa in Brandon, FL) but he returned to his homeland country just a few weeks ago.  His partner, Dr. Saeed may be administering the same procedure for me soon... (as it is wearing off), but the procedure is not one he's done before.  (I'm currently researching to find another Gastroenterologist in the area that perhaps has performed the procedure before.)  Please encourage your father, as I am in a much better place today.  (I actually prayed to die back in January.)  GP is very challenging.... I never dreamed I'd be anywhere near normal again.  I take Erythomycin as needed as the Reglan made me crazy.  I am 55 and am challenged with unrelated chronic pain issues that I'm sure hinder the GP due to all the pain meds.  I would strongly encourage you to check out the botox injections and if you haven't found a diet, do.  The Odwalla blueberry monster is packed with vitamins, Bolthouse Farms offers protein drinks.... When the GP acts up, I go back to liquids only.  We are fortunate to have a variety of liquid supplements available.  I pray your dad is better real soon.  Kat

I am 27 years old and I have had gastroperesis for a while now. I got to the point where I couldn't eat of drink anything for months. Lost a whole bunch of weight was put on a PIC line for nutrition. Aug. of last year I was transfered to Tampa general which has a dr. that implants gastric pacemakers. He ran some test and also agreed it was gastroperesis and implanted the gastric pacer. I take reglan, phenergan, zofran, and colace to keep everything going. I also get botox injections on my pyloris every 3 months. But I am able to hold down food and live a good life now. I still do gat some nausea but it's not as bad as it was. If you have any questions please let me know I will try to answer anything I can. Thanks
