I am a 43 yr old male, I suffer from the same symptoms and have done for many years. However, unlike your stories, I am not too embarrassed to see the Dr. After many colonscopy's endoscopy's gastroscopy's and scans I have finally had an accurate diagnosis. I have Extensive Diverticular Disease of the colon and a Hiatus Hernia of the stomach. Both are quite common although since I have had mine so long they have become irrepairable. If diagnosed early the affected part of the colon can be removed although there is little that can be done about the hernia of the stomach.I take a regular sachet of movicol; to prevent constipation and now drink a prebiotic food supplement called vsl#3 made by a company called ferrings. My conditions were made worse because I took steroids (prednisolone) for a long standing arthritis problem. I find my bloating occurrs more when I eat vegetables, if you are a 5 a day person stick to seedless fruit, drink as much fluid as you can bear. Give up lager in favour of real ale or wine if becoming tee total is too difficult. Avoid spirits. I also find 7 small meals a day rather than 3 works for me. A meal can be for me a couple of Apples. You also need to get your weight down if possible and some mild excersice never hurt anyone.
i have the same symptoms as your friend amy and i feel terrible, and i use to a heavy drinker so im scared what kalio said i might be in big trouble so please if you can send some more info.at ***@****,Thank You.
Thanks for the info. Since I posted he is feeling better. At 90% now. I bought some of that yogurt, Activia and it seems to be helping? He said he bowels were loose but nothing unnormal.
He didn't go to the doctor. However, I will try to get him a yearly check-up scheduled and tell the nurse to test for these things or make sure the doctor talks with him about them.
And, yes he does drink. Not a lot but 1 beer 5 times a week. Funny that he was sick the day following a big night out with heavy drinking! So the liver idea scares me.
Thanks for the information!
I strongly suggest he get his liver checked out. Does he drink alcohol? If so, I suggest he stop it altogether for now. I don't know what kind of "bowel problems" he is referring to, is he having light colored stools? The syptoms you describe sound like they could be hepatitis related to me. He should be checked out by the doctor immediately and have a CBC done and a complete hepatic panel done to make sure it isn't his liver that is causing this. He should be tested for Hep A B and C for starters.
He should NOT ignore his symptoms and avoid his doctor! His body is telling him something and he needs to have his blood looked at to make sure of what is going on. Tell him to stop messing around and get it checked out, it has gone on too long.
