Need answers

Hi my boyfriend is 31 years old and about 2 years ago started vomiting bile. Since we have been together (about a year now) he has continued to vomit bile and sometimes has been so bad that he has ended up in the ER. Last November I took him to the ER and he was diagnosed with H. Pylori and our family doctor said he has bile reflux as well. I guess my question is do the two go hand in hand most of the time? If so what is the next step to controlling this. He again came home from work today vomiting bile several times. Am very worried about his health and the complications that can come from these conditions. Any one have any thoughts? Much Appreciated!!

Thank you and yes they believe he is over producing bile as well!! The poor guy has lost weight over the last 2 years (about 20 pounds!!) but with the prilosec they put him on for now his appetite has been better and he has gained around 10 pounds back. They had him on 2 antibiotics for the H. Pylori and we were also thinking it's probably about time for another round as well. I do give him plenty of water when he is vomiting as I used to work as an EMT and have seen first hand the dangers of constant vomiting like that!! This does help and thank you again! When he goes to the doctor next week we will be sure to talk to her!!

Hello, sorry to hear about your boyfriends stomach problems. I also have bile reflux, but not to the point of vomiting like this.

It sounds like he is over producing bile also...? If the doctor gave him any medication for the H. Pylori, is he still taking it? If not maybe another round of it would help. Also, they can prescribe Regalin or Metacopamide , for short periods. It helps the bile go down into the small intestine instead of coming back into the stomach. This medication has alot of side effects, they say only to take it if the benefits out weigh the risks.

Hope this helps, as long as he doesn't loose too much weight from vomiting and doesn't start vomiting blood, he is in no immediate danger. Just help him stay calm, and feed him lots of water so he doesn't dehydrate. Good Luck!     Stacey
