Severe vomiting episodes

My son has been having episodes of severe vomiting for about a year now.  He doesn't have insurance but he did go to the ER a couple of times.  They just gave him fluids and did some generic blood work and then sent him on his way.  They gave him some Protonix this last time.

I'm concerned as he lives far from me and I don't know what's going on.  Are there any suggestions?  Since he has had this for about a year, I'm thinking it can't be anything life threatening.

My son started his first episodes at 6 years old. He vomited every 20 minutes to the minute for 24 hrs.I took him to the ER and they gave him a shot of Benadryl. We had one mor episode when we moved for a short period of time.He continued episodes through his life and is now free and clear of it as of the age of 20 . Now his girlfriend has it and has to drop out of college because of it.

I am sending this info because many doctors are not aware of this disease. You need to go to the Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome association site.

Cyclic Vomitting Syndrome Association

My son had it from the the time he was 6 years old and now seems to have beat it.

The reasons doctor's are not aware is  that is neurological as well as gastrointestinal.

Please look up the site and I will send you further info on my next post.

My dautherr in law is 21 and she has the same symptoms since childhood.  All through pregnancy is was unusually sick also----hospitalized many times.  Six weeks ago they thought it was from gallbladder so it was removed, however the throwing up started again last week.  No insurance, ER after ER and no answers.  She has missed a month of her daughters life in the last 6 weeks.

I am sorry to hear about ur sons.  I started out really young like them and it took them 25 yrs to diagnose me with ulcerative colitis because it is so hard back the to try and find.  Don't give up and try and get them to gastro docs they r the best.  Good luck and I will keep u in my prayers.

My son has been doing the same thing.  He is 8 years old.  He has been through many tests and still nothing.  They say it isn't life threatening but it has cause his teeth to slowly decay and without knowing how to stop it there isn't much they can do for his teeth right now.  He has missed so much school and I am trying to home school him now.  Has your son been for any real test?  If he has a medical problem he may qualify for the state insurance card.  I would try to get him on that so he has some kind of insurance.  But even after many tests I still have no answers!
