Please help if you can with what this means..

Hi- I was in the ER 2 weeks ago for the flu, but came out with other issues possibly. I had a CT scan done of my abdomen and wanted to know your thoughts on the report.. This is exactly how it is put...

CT abdomen: Lung baes are unremarkable. Enteris contrast is present in the distal thoracic esophagus. Liver, pancreas, spleen and adrenal glands are unremarkable. Duplicated right renal collecting system ispresent. A nonobstructing tiny nephrolith is present in left kidney. A subcentimeter hypodensity is also noted in the upper pole left kidney, there are no calicified gallstones.

There is apparent mural thickening of several pproximal small bowle loops, a nonspecific finding. This may represent enteritis which could be infectious or inflammatory in nature. There is no bowel dilatation. A duodenal diverticulum is also noted.

So... I have been having left sided pain that radiates to my back at times. Upper [art of my back. Terrible cramping and pain as well. Its upper and lower in the abdomen. I am also on Repliva, for anemia. I have been on this for 12 days. I know iron can do this, but what gets me is the one sided thing. I mean the hospital never mentioned anything about these findings either.

Can I have someones input if they might know. I know we arent Dr's here but any advice would be great!

MK

Ok.. thanks for the knowledge. So you think this should be looked at? I made an appt for next week for the Gastro Dr for the heck of it. I have fibroids going on, anemia and thyroid stuff. Fun times!

No, not in this case. Look up Meckel's diverticulum and you'll get an idea of what a diverticulum is. Meckel's is not what you have based on it's location, however.

It basically says that nothing much going on with the liver pancreas, spleen and adrenal glands. You have a 2nd 'entry/collecting' system at the right kidney - nothing unusual. You have a tiny 'stone' that isn't stopping any flow in the left kidney. There something that is less than a centimeter that is showing up less vividly at the top of the right kidney. Evidently no calcium-based gallstones.

In the small intestine you have some thickening of the walls of several loops. The radiologist is brushing it off as non-specfic - meaning the doc will probably say 'it's nothing.' The radiologist is saying that it could be due to some type of 'passing' inflammation - like gastroenteritis or the like. You have no areas of bowel that are distended.

But you do have a duodenal diverticulum which is an 'extra' pouch in the duodenum.

You may want to follow up (or push) with the doc on the diverticulum and the bowel inlammation. They may or may not be causing symptoms. Diverticula in the bowel can cause pain. And if the inflammatory pattern is other than just viral in nature that could also cause problems.
