Ultrasound report --- information seems conflicting

I recently had an US of the abdomen to look for causes of intermittent abdominal pain.

The US results were broken down under the heading FINDINGS and then each major organ listed. Under "Liver" it states "Limited evaluation due to overlying shadowing bowel gas. There is suggestion of coarse hepatic echotexture".

And then it states "A discrete lesion is not identified".

My consternation and worry is that this last statement means a discrete lesion was found but couldn't be identified.  The ordering Dr. thinks it means none was found, period.

This seems too important to leave to what it might or probably means.  How would you interpret this????   On the back of the report under IMPRESSIONS it lists just the statement about the coarse hepatic echotexture and nothing about a lesion. I'm thinking about going to the imagery center and ask the radiologist himself.

I'm going nuts worrying now about HCC.

thanks

Dr ended up ordering another US because the first one was limited visually.  So the second one pretty much stated the same thing except it said "coarse echotexture" whereas the first time it was "suggests coarse echotexture".

Now Dr. wants an MRI because of this and says I have some form of liver disease.   This doesn't sound like its going the right way.

Hi, it simply means that the report is normal, other than the mild thickening of the hepatic flexure. Because there is thickening of the bowel, they have specified that no lesion is detected. So, please dont worry. Either way imaging studies are just that, without clinical correlation, they mean nothing. If there was a doubt your doctor would have asked for further studies. So, dont worry and consult your doctor for clarifications. Regards.
