For four years now I have been plagued with episodes of the following description:
Before I lie down to sleep, I begin having these awful eggy/suplhur burps. In the middle of the night I am awakened by terrible gnawing burning sharo pains about 2 inches below the bottom of my sternum. The pain is very intense causing several ER visits, and writhing around in pain. The pain finally stops after hours of continued pain with the empyting of the contents of my stomach, which is sour yellow bile.
The episodes generally come in the fowwoling patter - 3-4 epidodes within a week and then nothing for about 5 months or so.
Because the episodes happen so late, there are never any tests run during the symptoms, only after and generally a week or so afterwards due to scheduling.
According to ultrasounds - no gall stones.
HIDAA scan revealed gallbladder functioning at 80%
Endoscopy revealed errosive gastritis, duodenitis, and hiatal hernia (no ulcer)
Biopsy showed negative for H. Pylori
CT Scan only showed an ovarian cyst.
I was prescribed dexilant and bentyl. Have not been given a reason for the actual episodes.
Are there any others with these symptoms who found a diagnosis? Are there other tests that I need to try? Is this just something with which I will just have to live?
