What to do when the meds don't help SOD?

My doc diagnosed me with SOD 4 weeks ago and put me on netriptolin and hyomax.  They seemed to help the 2 week I took them but now my pain is slowly growing worse day by day.  I don't know what to do if it gets as bad as it was before.  I have been dealing with this for almost 6 months and have already had to be hospitalized because I got so dehydrated and malnourished I could not fuction.  I've lost over 25lbs and can't seem to get any back on. I don't know what to do!!!!

Tried a low fat diet but did not help me.  The only diet I found that works with me is a no food diet.  The only time I have felt good is when I was in the hospital and they fed me through an IV.

Well Levbid is the name brand of hyomax which they had me on 2 different types but it was causing my vision to blur so bad that they took me off of it yesterday.  And the nortriptyline is the generic for Pamelor which is a antidepressant.  After about one week of taking these medications I started to notice a difference and was finally able to start eating again (first time in almost 2 months).  But then this week I've started having pain and vomitting all over again.  So my Doc wanted me to up my dosage of the antidepressant but it makes me where I can't think for myself I just don't know what to do.  My doctor wanted to an ERCP but told me in my condition it would be real hard on me,  when I had a colonoscopy it landed me in the hospital for 4 days where they had to feed me through an IV.  I just don't know what to do but I see by alot of other people on this site that they are in the same boat.  Thanks for any info or advice.  Merry Christmas.

What are those meds for?

I was prescribed Levbid which is an anti-spasmotic and Elavil which is an antidepressant but is used for it's side effect on pain.  Elavil numbs the nerve endings in your body so that you can tolerate more pain.  It's not a fix for SOD, but it helped me greatly when I took those meds together.  If you ask your doc about them, ask if he/she can prescribe you the .375 dose of the Levbid, it's a once a day timed relase dose rather than the 'as needed' dose.  I found it much more effective.

This all being said, there is only a 50/50 chance of meds working on SOD, so hang in there and just keep trying things.  I think there is also a calcium channel blocker that you can try as well.

Good luck!
