Opinion needed!

I am 27 year old female and my mother died in 2002 at age 45 with mucinous endocarcinoma with signet ring a very hard and fast working tumor of the colon. She was diagnosed through pap and it spread everywhere really fast. This year has been hard for me. I was having blood in my movements in march this year and I had a colonoscophy and removed 4 endonomas rather large all of which were fine. Now at the end of September I started having irregular bowel movements and stints of blood and tons of mucus and became worried and had another colonoscophy and she removed 2 more colon polyps on thursday the 11 of october and I can't believe I havent gotten the results back yet. I know what this type of circumstances can do and I want to know. I called and will find out on monday. It took 3 days for my last colonscope. Anyways I was wondering how often I have to get a colonoscophy considering 6 polyps where removed this year, all which where sessile at two different times? Should I get genetic testing and what are my chances of getting colon cancer at some point in my life? The better I am prepared the more I feel good about it.

My dad also had a colon tumor carcinogeous . It was removed and he was treated for the cancer. He is okay. The docs are keeping a close eye on him. Its been a year and they haven't done a colonscopy. But they said that I (30) must get one especially after 40 years of age. They usually recomend it at age 50 or 60 but when there is no colon cancer family history. And yes I am now more volnurable of getting it now that mydad had it. But don't just focus on that, check all possibilities. My dad always thought that he die of a heart attack given that he had high blood pressure all his life, always focus on that disease and neverthought that he would get colon cancer that would almost kill him. So enjoy life and don't stress out just check yourself with the doc periodically. As my dad said I'm still alive thank God. And polypss well almost everybody has them. Thank goodness you got them in time.

These are questions you need to write down and present to your doctor.  If you don't feel comfortable with the answers, then get a second opinion.  Obviously this is something you are going to have to stay on top of, and if your current doc isn't delivering, then dump him.

It does seem ridiculous that you haven't received results from your scope on October 11.  Are you waiting for the doc's office to call, or have you called them to check on it?  Sometimes pathology gets backed up, or clerks forget to fax results, or the fax just didn't go through.  Sometimes the delay falls to a transcription service.  Whatever the cause, if you haven't called, do it and light a fire under someone's rear end to get the ball rolling.
