its ok, i appreciate your input, thanks very much
And there I go showing my ignorance: metoclopramide (metoclopram) IS a Reglan generic. As for side effects, about 10% of people show some type of side effect, and the longer you use it the more likely it is you'll have some side effect. For most people in that 10% category the side effect is fatigue and restlessness. However, other side effects are possible and you should contact your doc at the first sign of trouble.
thanks, i have been doing some research and it seems as if a dietitian is better to go to rather than a nutritionist....im still not sure. also i think i was supplied the generic form of reglan.
Because of the complexity of the disorder it's hard to give you advice based on this info. Are you diabetic, or do you have any other condition which may be responsible? What was your emptying time? That will go a very long way in determining treatment. To answer your q's:
1) Will you continue to lose weight? Possibly, depending on your current weight, what you're eating, what you're able to eat, etc.
2) Its effect on your having kids will depend on a number of factors including the current severity.
3) Yes, you should, a nutritionist familiar with gastroparesis. Usually a low-fat/low-fiber diet is recommended for the condition, but it's such an individual condition that this isn't necessarily a hard and fast rule. Low fat seems to be standard, low fiber... depends.
4) Possibly. Metoclopram isn't just an anti-nausea med, however, it's used to improve gastric motility. Why didn't your doctor instead go with the more standard Reglan on Domperidone?
Your best source of information will probably be the Yahoo group on Gastroparesis. (Just go to groups.yahoo.com and search for "gastroparesis".) Go and check it out.
Good luck.
