regurgitating while sleeping

My wife had one third of her stomach removed because of an ulcer in her duodenum in 2000. Lately she has been regurgitating during the night while she asleep to the point she feels short of breath. Any suggestions?

Hi there!

You could try raising the head end of the bed or using multiple pillows to do the same and see it seems to help. I would also be suggest avoiding taking food atleast 2-3 hours before going to sleep. While antacids can be used for symptomatic relief, if the symptoms are severe and not relieved by medications, I would suggest consulting a gastroenterologist for additional medications that may be helpful. Surgical measures are exclusively reserved for severe cases that fail to respond to conservative measures.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
