Condom, Massage Oil, HIV risk

Hi Dr,

Last week I had protected oral and penetrative sex with a Csw. However before we had either, she had given me a massage with some kind of oil. I had asked her what oil it was and she had replied that it was safe for babies. I did not think much about it at that time. She had massaged the oil on my genital area and onto her hands. Later with her oily hands, she had applied the condom on my penis and we indulged in both kinds of sex for a total of 10 minutes. After we were done, I had given a cursory look at the condom. It had seemed to contain all my ejaculate. I do not think the condom broke, but I cannot be sure. It is 2 days back that,I read that oils can weaken the condom and cause leakage making one susceptible to HIV and other STDs.

Now I am worried about being exposed to HIV and other STDs.

What do you think my risk of getting HIV or other STDs is?
Do I need testing and if so after how long?
Can I have unprotected sex with my spouse in the meantime?

Thank you very much in advance.

Your risk for pharyngeal gonorrhea is quite small but if you wish to be completely sure, you should have a swab taken from your throat for gonorrhea.  I am confident that if you do your test will be negative.  The levaquin, while ill advised, does not change my assessment.  EWH

Thank you Dr. One quick question. The oral was unprotected actually. However when I did see the escort that day, I had also performed oral on her. I was also on my last day of 10 day course of levaquin for a sinus infection. I did test myself for GC 6 days later, because of unprotected oral, I tested for GC on the day I posted the question. The results came back negative. Any chance that the levaquin could have interfered with the GC testing?
Also I have been having sore throat for 2 days. Do I need to get tested for pharyngeal gonorrhea? Will I get disseminated Gonorrhea from asymptomatic pharyngeal gonorrhea?

Sorry for the additional questions, just got anxious.

Thank you again.

Welcome to our Forum.  I'll be glad to try to clarify things.  You are correct that oils and other petroleum product do weaken condoms.  When they do however, they increase the possibility that the condoms will break, not that they will otherwise leak.  Thus if your condom appeared intact it almost certainly was, making the activities you describe safe sex and reducing your risk for HIV to close to zero.  I see no need for testing for HIV or other STDs,  Similarly, I see no reasonf for concern about having unprotected sex with your spouse related to the exposure you describe.  EWH
