Sex Toy

Hi appreciate your advice on my situation. About 4 weeks ago in London I visited a massage parlour. The girl was very professional. My concern is that we shared a sex toy, I used a dildo on her and shortly afterwards she insterted it in my rectum while she gave me a BJ. I am not sure that she changed the condom on the toy between me using it on her and her using it on me.
What kind of risk did I potentially expose my self too?

Your risk was low to start with.  Whether you get further testing or not is up to you.  After 5 weeks between 90 and 95% of tests that were going to be positive would be.  That would be good enough for me.  EWH

Would you still recommend testing out to 6 -8 weeks?

Glad to hear it.  The odds (which were always in your favor) are steadily getting better.  EWH

Probably.  Lower than for true receptive rectal intercourse with a living partner but higher than for vaginal intercourse.  EWH

Thanks, where would you put this in a risk matrix? Similair to insertive anal sex?

No, somewhere between 6 (when over 95% of tests that are going to be positive will be) and 8 weeks (when between 98-99% of all tests that are going to be positive will be) should be sufficient.  At there time there will still be some tiny residual chance of having a positive test result but, given the relatively low risk of your exposure and using the reasoning outlined above, the remaining chance of infection is very, very close to zero.  EWH

When would you recmmend testing? Would you recommend I wait for 12 weeks?

By the way love the music.

While there is a theoretical risk of HIV or STD acquisition if a sex toy is immediately used in sequence between partners, the risk is low.  The reasons I say this are, for starters, the usual ones- that odds are your partner did not have HIV or STD and that you only had a single exposure (your highest risk exposure was the insertion of the dildo into your rectum).  The risk is actually lower than that however since HIV and STDs because STD pathogens survive poorly outside the body so that even brief exposure outside the body further reduces your risk of transmission.

In summary, this was a low but not no risk exposure.  Testing is reasonable but I would not worry too much. Gook luck.  EWH
