Very anxious!

Dear Doctors,

As you can see on me earlier posts, i'm a very nervous guy and i am very scared of diseases.
So here it goes: last September i needed to take antibiotics for an infection. a few days later a got a strange itch/prickling sensation all over my body. i got scared and thought it was hodgkins itch.

The itch/tingling went only away when i was really enjoying myself with friends or so but the next day it came back.
I went to the doctor and he did a cbc and everything was normal. He assured me that it was not hodgkin.
But i went totally freaked out over the months and i needed to go to talk to somebody. The itch comes and goes and it is not there when i'm totally relaxed.

But last wednesday i was searching on the internet and i read about periferal neurophaty (pn) that it was a symptom of late hiv, aids infection. And now i'm totally in panic. Because last saturday i have developed symptoms of pn. Tingling in my feet and hands, pain in my feet and toes. etc....

Now i was thinking because i got chlamydia in 2004 exactly 10 years ago from my ex girlfriend. I went immediately to the doctor and got treated. But i never did an hiv, aids test afterwarts.

Now i'm scared that i have hiv for 10 years because of the pn i just developed. This is my only symptom of late stage hiv.
Is a cbc after 10 years reassuring or not? I have my ex on facebook and it looks like she is doing fine.

I know that i have to test myself and i will but i really would like to know your opinion on this.

Kind Regards

I am sorry that your paranoia continues to impact you this way. This is an unrealistic concern.  It also suggests that you do not help yourself by searching the internet on health related issues.

A CBC in a test of the blood count and while it might be impacted by a chronic infection it is an indirect indicator at best.  In a person with HIV a CBC would probably be abnormal but does not have to be.   If you are worried about HIV, and there is no reason for worry, you should get an HIV test, not allow yourself to be paralyzed with worried over anxiety-related symptoms and fears related to your past behaviors.  From your past posts there is really almost no reason for you to worry about HIV and the only reason for you to test is to address your continuing fears.  If testing will give you peace o mind however, I suggest you get tested. I am confident the test will be negative. EWH
